Institute for Supply Management® announces it will award $10,000 scholarships for the R. Gene Richter Scholarship in 2018
TEMPE, Ariz., Oct. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --The Institute for Supply Management® and the R. Gene and Nancy D. Richter Foundation have announced that they have doubled the prestigious, annual R. Gene Richter Scholarship for individuals seeking education in supply management, supply chain management or procurement to the amount of $10,000 ($5,000 for December graduates). Historically, the organizations awarded $5,000 scholarships ($2,500 for December graduates). Applications for the scholarship program are now open, and the full scholarship application can be found here.
"Past winners of the annual R. Gene Richter Scholarship have truly benefited from the program's tuition assistance, executive mentoring, junior mentoring and networking," said Tom Derry, ISM CEO. "We are pleased to expand this year's scholarship award to continue to fast-track promising, future leaders of supply management into the profession."
Students eligible for the scholarships will be in their senior year during the 2018–2019 academic year and be enrolled full-time in an accredited supply management program with the intention of specializing in the supply management profession. Winners of the scholarships are awarded the $10,000 (December graduates will be awarded $5,000) to be used toward educational expenses. In addition, scholars are enrolled in a mentoring program where they are paired with both an executive in supply chain management and a previous scholarship winner. Current-year recipients are invited to attend ISM2018, Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, May 6-9, 2018. They will be the guests of honor at a special Richter Awards Presentation Dinner on Monday, May 7, 2018 and will be escorted to this banquet by their mentors.
In addition, one year after graduation (May 2020) and following completion of real-world experience in the field of supply chain management, Richter Scholars are invited to participate in an invitation only ExecIn: Executive Program for the executive leadership of the profession held concurrently with the ISM Annual Conference.
The R. Gene Richter Scholarship Program was established and named in memory of R. Gene Richter, who was a galvanizing force in the field of procurement. Richter is admired for elevating the profession to world-class stature. He led the supply organizations at The Black & Decker Corporation, Hewlett-Packard and International Business Machines (IBM).
