Press Conference Today - National Nurses United, Tom Morello Update on May 18 Daley Plaza Rally on Eve of NATO Summit
(Note New Call In Number for Call In Press Conference)
CHICAGO, May 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- What's the latest on the kickoff rally leading into the weekend NATO summit in Chicago?
National Nurses United Executive Director RoseAnn DeMoro and eminent musician Tom Morello will speak at a call-in press conference Monday, May 14 to provide the latest details.
The call for media will be held at 1:30 p.m. Central Time (2:30 p.m. Eastern, 11:30 a.m. Pacific).
Please note the new phone number for the call-in – (866) 615-1885, access code – 248646.
Today's press conference follows a tumultuous week in which Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and city officials first tried to block the long planned rally, then reversed the decision late Friday following protests by the nurses and other advocates of free speech rights.
The rally will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Daley Plaza, May 18.
Major elements of the event will include a comedic skit as Robin Hood's band of merry women and men search the woods for the G-8 leaders, originally scheduled to be in Chicago at the time of the rally, special speakers, and, of course, a performance by Morello, The Nightwatchman.
Robin Hood is on hand to bring to life the central theme of the rally – the nurses' call for a small tax on Wall Street trades of stocks, bonds and other financial transactions to raise up to $350 billion dollars every year to help fund jobs, healthcare, education and other basic needs required to bring the U.S. out of the economic plight caused by the reckless actions of the big banks.
In addition to the rally, NNU will also sponsor additional media actions May 18 to highlight U.S. and international challenges to global austerity measures that are eroding living standards in the U.S. and around the world.
