President of Israel Shimon Peres Visits JVP Media Quarter: Jerusalem's Hub of High-tech Innovation
President Peres Checks Out Groundbreaking Startups at Jerusalem's Hub of High-Tech Innovation; Praises JVP Companies Driving Global Innovation
JERUSALEM, June 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
The President of the State of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres, a leading proponent of high-tech development, got an up-close look today at the latest in Israeli innovation at the JVP Media Quarter, a high-tech hub in the heart of Jerusalem. JVP (Jerusalem Venture Partners) has been ranked one of the top ten most consistently performing venture capital funds in the world.
President Peres was introduced to several of JVP's hottest startups from fields as diverse as cyber-security, media and even social-based fashion. These included Cyber-Ark, a world-leading cyber-security firm; Siano, the market leader enabling users to view live TV on mobile platforms; and AnyClip, a web service that lets users find their favorite moments from tens of thousands of Hollywood films.
Fashion startup WiShi, a "social styling hub" which was recently launched in the JVP Media Labs incubator by female entrepreneurs, demonstrated its "online closet" to President Peres, presenting him with a chic new tie with the company logo. Co-founder Hila Angel told Peres that WiShi is revolutionizing fashion by bringing crowdsourcing to the world of styling.
President Peres told the JVP entrepreneurs that he was duly impressed by their innovations. "Your endeavors are truly groundbreaking," said President Peres. "They are advancing Israel's technological prowess worldwide. This technological prowess will turn into diplomatic strength in the future."
President Peres also met with volunteers and schoolchildren from JVP's social initiative, "Bakehila" or "In the Community." "In the Community" was established by JVP founder, Knesset Member Erel Margalit, and has been active for over a decade in six disadvantaged Jerusalem neighborhoods. The organization works with 22,000 youth to raise their academic achievements while promoting personal and social growth.
MK Margalit told the President that JVP's combination of high-tech and social entrepreneurship was unique. "On the one hand, you have the most advanced technology in the world in the JVP Media Quarter. Nearby, you have children mired in poverty in underprivileged neighborhoods," said MK Margalit, who explained that Bakehila gives these children a chance for a better future. "Kids break through the cycle of poverty when they're allowed to dream about what they can be. That's what Bakehila is all about."
