President Obama Announces Administrative Actions to Ease More Restrictions on Travel to Cuba

WASHINGTON, March 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In reaction to President Obama's announcement that his administration will take action to further ease travel restrictions to Cuba, Marlene M. Johnson, executive director and CEO of NAFSA issued the following statement:

"We applaud the Obama administration's actions this morning, easing restrictions on 'people to people' educational trips to Cuba. For more than 10 years, NAFSA has advocated for opening up relations with Cuba. While these changes are a positive step forward, they will not end this 50-year-old failed policy of isolation. Legislative action must accompany executive action in order to codify this into law, freeing Americans to travel and conduct education and business interactions with Cuba as freely as we are permitted to do so with every other country in the world.
