President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia Issues Statement Supporting Cuban Opposition Leader Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet at inauguration of the Inspire America Foundation

MIAMI, Aug. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia sent a message to a crowd of almost 1,000 gathered for the inauguration of InspireAmerica.org and in honor of Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, at the Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables. Also congratulating Dr. Biscet were Senator Marco Rubio, and Representatives, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Carlos Curbelo, Lincoln-Diaz Balart, Ambassador Jim Cason, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernandez.

At the event, President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia sent a video supporting Dr. Biscet's struggle against the Castro regime in Cuba. Also sending their support were Senator Marco Rubio, Representatives Ileana Ros Lehtinen, Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Carlos Curbelo and Ambassador Jim Cason, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernandez.

It was the first time President Uribe publicly sent his support for the Cuban Opposition leader. Dr. Biscet is a Nobel Peace Prize candidate and fellow winner of the US Presidential Medal of Freedom, an honor he shares with President Uribe as well as with Vaclav Havel, Lech Walesa, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. He has also received the Czech Republic's Plaque of Honor. In 2011, he was honored by Bono at a U2 concert in Miami.
