Presentation of the Cherkasy Region, Ukraine: Investment and Development Opportunities
NEW YORK, June 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On 20 June 2012, the official delegation of Cherkasy, Ukraine headed by Governor Sergii Tulub will be presenting an overview of investment and development opportunities in their region in the framework of the upcoming substantive session of the UN Economic and Social Council. The presentation organized by the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN and the General Consulate of Ukraine in New York, will take place from 3 to 6 p.m., in the Dag Hammarskjold Library Auditorium at the UN Headquarters (405 East 42nd Street, New York).
The Cherkasy delegation will be also exploring the opportunities for the bilateral business and economic cooperation with the state of New York. Governor Sergii Tulub and members of his delegation which includes a group of the leading Ukrainian businessmen will have a meeting in Albany with New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and other major New York state legislators to discuss joint projects in such areas as energy, agriculture, technology, trade and cultural exchange.
Cherkasy region is the agro-industrial heart of Ukraine as well as one of the most popular tourist destinations. It is also a spiritual center of the country since two of the most prominent figures in Ukraine history were closely associated with the region. One of them, Taras Shevchenko, the greatest poet of Ukraine was born and buried there. The other great Cherkasy resident was Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, a great grandson of the Baal Shem Tov, who breathed new life into the Hasidic movement. About 30,000 people from the United States and other countries make an annual pilgrimage to his grave site during the High Holidays.
Governor Tulub also wants to showcase rich cultural traditions of Cherkasy region. To that end, an art exhibition is presented at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South, Manhattan) from June 20 to 22. On view are paintings by contemporary regional artists from the Cherkasy State Art Museum and works by a renowned Cherkasy ethno modern artist Alexandra Telizhenko. The Cherkasy State Academic Folk choir will perform at National Arts Club on June 21 and at the Ukrainian American Festival in Upstate New York on June 22. These cultural events are part of the 10th Annual Our Heritage Festival produced by the Russian American Foundation in cooperation with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, the City of New York and the New York Post.
