Premier Basketball League adds Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
CHICAGO, July 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Premier Basketball League announces its latest addition to their new regional play model in professional basketball. Team Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA has been approved and have established their venue for the 2012 season. The new team will be playing their home games at the recently remodeled 2500 seat Lackawanna College Union Center.
"We are extremely excited to bring a team to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre next season. The Premier Basketball League brings our ownership group the business model we've been looking for. To pay high exorbitant expansion fees and play 40 games in other leagues that we examined did not make economic sense to us. Our program will be heavily involved in the community and with our fans, and without a doubt the Premier Basketball League leads the way in professional basketball in this regard," commented Dr. Stanley Blondek, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre based pediatrician and member of the new ownership group.
The Premier Basketball League announced a regional play model earlier this year. This allows for local team fans to travel to away games to support their home-town team. Additionally, a regional play model makes it more financially viable for new team owners to hit the ground running in 2012. "It's about the community, the fans, and the players. Our city has such an amazing atmosphere and we are happy to bring such a positive program and league into Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, commented Joe Runco, President of J.R. Runco Blacktop & Concrete, Inc.
"Dr. Blondek & Mr. Runco took the time to visit with us and discuss the PBL and its team business model. Scranton is an amazing town for basketball and sports in general. From community support for all of the collegiate sports, all the way to little league baseball, we are confident that Scranton will add amazing character and value to the Premier Basketball League," commented PBL President & Chief Executive Officer Brij Desai.
During the upcoming season the Premier Basketball League will be broadcasting their games across America on @Sports Television Network. "This was one of many factors for us when it came to finalizing our league selection," finished Dr. Blondek.
The new Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team will be having a "Name your team" contest. Please look out for the new website at www.TeamScrantonPBL.com
