Premier Anti-Money Laundering Association Takes Lead in Addressing FinCEN's Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for CDD Obligations
ACAMS to guide members through the process of public comment in upcoming Live Chat
MIAMI, April 3, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) has announced a special Live Chat to discuss the recent advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) by the Financial Crime Enforcement Network (FinCEN), which seeks public comment on FinCEN's consideration of new customer due diligence (CDD) obligations. The Live Chat—Customer Due Diligence: Are You Asking or Answering The Right Questions? will be held on Wednesday, April 25 and will only be available to members of ACAMS.
"One of ACAMS' biggest roles is that of the objective third party, facilitating public discourse on proposed public policy actions that could dramatically alter the regulatory landscape," said John Byrne, CAMS, ACAMS executive vice president. "Though ACAMS is neutral on this issue and the eventual proposed changes, it is critical that we provide the discussion forum for our community of over 12,000 members from both the private and public sectors. Once our membership understands how to make meaningful contributions to the public dialogue on these considerations, it will undoubtedly help FinCEN bring uniformity and consistency to their decisions."
Byrne, who will be speaking at the event, will be joined by ACAMS Advisory Board Chairman, Richard Small, CAMS. The event will guided by moderator Kieran Beer, Editor-in-Chief of ACAMS moneylaundering.com.
"Things keep getting more complex for the AML community and the regulatory hurdles just keep rising. The expansion of CDD obligations continues that trend and creates apprehension among compliance professionals," remarked Beer. "But this Live Chat with Rick and John will go a long way toward addressing those concerns. It will give ACAMS members a solid sense of the possible scope and repercussions of any changes in CDD."
During this one-hour event, the panelists will provide guidance on responding to the questions in the ANPRM, as well as discuss the ways that changes to customer due diligence could affect their compliance programs. A review will also be given of the key elements of the strategy employed by FinCEN in their approach to the changes.
"This is an event that every compliance professional should be attending," continued Byrne. "We are thrilled to be providing our members with the voice needed to make a profound impact on the AML industry."
This Live Chat is open exclusively to members of ACAMS at no cost at www2.acams.org/cdd.
