Predators gain an hour on November 4th. iWitness has an app for that.
Company offers free trial to any person who wants to feel safer.
SEATTLE, Nov. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The majority of violent assaults occur at night, a fact that's leading personal security technology company iWitness to offer its service free for anyone who wants to try it. "With most of the country about to lose an hour of daylight, we thought this would be a good time to introduce people to iWitness," said company founder, Dave Remer. "Our goal is to help prevent some crimes from occurring, which is why iWitness was invented."
The offer can be activated any time between now and November 4th. To get started, people simply go to the iWitness website (www.iwitness.com) and use promo code "darkness." They will then be prompted to download the service on their iPhone – a process that takes just minutes.
The iWitness service is available exclusively through an iPhone app. Any time a user feels threatened, iWitness can capture video and audio of the situation, and instantly send it, along with their exact GPS location, to a secure server – an action that no perpetrator can reverse, delete, or undo.
iWitness also calls 911 automatically, notifies friends and family that the user feels endangered, emits a flashing light, and sounds an alarm.
Gary Ernsdorff of the King Country Prosecutor's office said, "Having a witness around makes an individual unattractive to perpetrators. And iWitness technology means that people can now have that witness, even when they're alone."
Common self-defense methods such as pepper spray, knives, and guns can potentially be turned against the user, or cause unintended harm. iWitness provides protection without such risks.
"With iWitness, people can feel safer whenever they're walking alone, day or night," says iWitness CEO, Greg Heuss. "Many women are subscribing, and even more men are buying it for the women in their lives, including wives, mothers, and daughters."
iWitness was designed by tech industry veterans with deep experience in E911 and wireless data transport for emergency services. It has been praised by law enforcement professionals and covered by national media.
