Jay Bhattacharya, MD, PhD, is an associate professor of medicine and a core faculty member at Stanford University's Center for Health Policy/Primary Care and Outcomes Research. His research focuses on vulnerable populations—their constraints in making decisions that affect their health status, and the effects of government policies and programs designed to benefit them. He has published empirical economic and health services research on the elderly, adolescents, HIV/AIDS, and managed care.  Dr. Bhattacharya has researched the regulation of the market for secondary life insurance that often targets HIV patients, and seasonal differences in nutritional outcomes for low-income American families.

Anupam B. Jena, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of health care policy and medicine at Harvard Medical School and an attending physician practicing general inpatient medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.  Research he conducted on the economic impact of medical research with PHE Founding Partner Tomas Philipson received Research!America's prestigious Eugene Garfield Award, recognizing outstanding economic research aimed at improving health or our healthcare system. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Jena is a Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His work has been published in leading journals of economics, medicine, and health policy and has been featured in prominent news outlets including The New York Times and Wall Street Journal.  

Katharine Batt, MD, MSc, is a clinical fellow in medical oncology, hematology, and palliative care in the Department of Hematology/Medical Oncology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.  Having been awarded a Master of Science in international health policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, she consults with that entity on health policy projects, providing insight into the practice of clinical medicine in America. Her research interests lie in vulnerable patient populations, innovative healthcare delivery strategies, and barriers to clinical care, and she was part of a team reporting to the World Health Organization on vaccine-delivery strategies in developing nations.
