Pratt & Whitney launches PurePulse™ waterjet technology
New service provides a faster, safer and more environmentally conscious way to remove coatings from parts and machinery.
EAST HARTFORD, Conn., May 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company today announced it is launching a new service called PurePulse™ waterjet technology. This closed-loop, forced pulse waterjet system is a patented way to strip chrome, HVOF (high velocity oxygen fuel) and other coatings from parts and machinery, saving customers time and money.
"Customers who use our new waterjet technology will be able to remove coatings quickly and efficiently while putting less stress on equipment thereby improving turn-around-time and cost," said Doug Cleary, director, Pratt & Whitney Military Engines Aftermarket Services. "PurePulse is a versatile service for a variety of applications and it decreases maintenance and energy costs, and down time associated with the more complicated high pressure systems."
PurePulse technology is the leading environmentally friendly hard coatings removal service available on the market today. It can replace chemical dipping and grinding and has a system that reuses filtered water. With this technology, no abrasives or chemicals are needed to remove coatings.
According to Jim Cooper, general manager, Pratt & Whitney Automation, not only does PurePulse avoid potentially harmful chemicals of the coatings removal process, but it also is more efficient than traditional forced water jet technology.
"Until now, separating chrome and other hardened materials from parts has been a costly, inexact and a potentially hazardous process," said Cooper. "PurePulse ends the need for toxic dipping and grinding. It strips parts quickly, inexpensively, and without damage."
Pratt & Whitney Automation, Inc. (PWA) based in Huntsville, Ala., is now available to provide this forced pulse waterjet coatings removal service.
