Poynter Names Three New Members to National Advisory Board

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Jan. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Poynter, a school dedicated to teaching practitioners and teachers of journalism, announces the appointment of three new members to its National Advisory Board (NAB). The new NAB members, who will serve a term of four years, join a board of 10 and bring to the Institute experiences in traditional and new forms of journalism, as well as in academia and research.

Those named to the Board are:

• Emily Bell, Professor of Professional Practice and Director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism, Columbia Graduate School of Journalism

Bell is the inaugural director for the Tow Center for Digital Journalism, which explores how the development of technology is changing journalism. She was director of digital content for Britain's Guardian News and Media from 2006 to 2010. Previous to that post, she was editor-in-chief of Guardian Unlimited and is a leading media commentator in the U.K.

• Rob King, Senior Vice President, Editorial, Digital and Print Media, ESPN

King oversees the editorial direction of ESPN's industry-leading portfolio of digital and print properties, which includes all text, audio, video and multimedia content for ESPN.com, ESPN Mobile, espnW, fantasy sports, Grantland.com, ESPN The Magazine and ESPNHS. Prior to his current role, he served as vice president and editor in chief of ESPN.com.

• Gilad Lotan, VP of Research and Development, SocialFlow

Lotan leads SocialFlow's data science team, which is focused on analyzing networked audiences, information flow and attention in Social Media. He is a leading researcher and authority on deriving insight from social streams. Previously, Lotan built social data visualizations at Microsoft's FUSE labs.
