Powering The Universal Inbox Era, SendGrid Reaches 200 Billion Emails Delivered
Application Email Leader Captures 2% Global Email Share, Reaches 150,000 Customers, Signs Snapchat, Hightail, Identified, Dwolla, LiveFyre, Atlassian, Sonos, Zillow, SCVNGR
BOULDER, Colo., March 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SendGrid, the leader in application email infrastructure, today announced that it has reached 200 billion emails delivered and that it has crossed the 150,000 customer mark. In 2013 alone, SendGrid delivered 100 billion emails, which represented an 85 percent increase in email volume over 2012. Recently signed customers include Snapchat, Hightail, Identified, Dwolla, LiveFyre, Atlassian, Sonos, Zillow and SCVNGR.
In the last several years the email channel has been augmented by myriad other digital channels, including social, mobile, web, SMS and online-to-offline. Rather than replace email, these channels have served to solidify the email channel's function as the glue that holds all marketing channels together. Email also remains the primary method of user signup, authentication and retention for nearly every major web and mobile application.
SendGrid's email volume now represents two percent of the global non-spam email market. SendGrid sends as many daily emails as Twitter sends tweets. That's over 500 million emails per day or 5,000 per second 24x7. SendGrid anticipates that total volume may reach 360 billion by the end of the year. Common emails delivered by SendGrid include account registrations, password resets, friend or follower requests, purchase confirmations or any user-generated notification.
"The email landscape is changing as social services, web and mobile app functionality replaces email for some aspects of casual conversation. These same applications, however, almost universally utilize an email address as a primary form of user signup, authentication and notification," said Byron Deeter, Partner, Bessemer Venture Partners. "It's one of the most common ways that digital businesses communicate with their customers. That's why we expect SendGrid to see continued growth along with the web app and cloud ecosystems that it supports."
"Consumers are increasingly using their inboxes as a central hub for disparate digital communications, whether those communications are Twitter DM notifications, an Uber receipt or a Pinterest follower notification," said Jim Franklin, CEO, SendGrid. "Consumers today are processing and managing their digital lives from their email inboxes. Email remains the backbone of the web."
