PowerbyProxi Raises The Bar For Efficient Resonant Wireless Charging
Demos peak efficiencies over 70% for resonant Qi-compatible wireless power system at CES
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- from ShowStoppers @ CES 2015 – PowerbyProxi, (www.powerbyproxi.com) developer of the world's most advanced and safest wireless power solutions, will today show how it is outpacing the resonant wireless power industry with a smartphone solution that demonstrates peak system efficiency over 70%. The latest Proxi-2D™ system also showcases a number of advanced features expected to be included in the new resonant Qi v1.2 specification including multi-mode functionality, which allows for both resonant and inductive wireless charging.
"We have yet to see anyone else in the industry answer direct questions about the efficiency of their resonant systems, let alone demonstrate resonant system efficiencies in excess of 70%" said Greg Cross, CEO of PowerbyProxi. "We believe PowerbyProxi continues to lead in this area and are solving the technical challenges that others have yet to address," said Cross.
The wireless power market continued to gain traction in 2014 with 25 million CE devices shipped equipped with wireless charging capabilities.* The overall market is anticipated to be worth $15.1 billion by 2020** with key markets in CE devices, industrial components and long term infrastructure.
PowerbyProxi measures system efficiency by comparing the DC input to the transmitter and the DC power output at the receiver – an important method to capture the full system efficiency including transmitter, receiver and coupling efficiencies. PowerbyProxi believes efficiency is a critical performance criteria for wireless charging systems that is becoming increasingly crucial as smartphone and phablet charge requirements increase. Lower system efficiencies will lead to greater power loss and extended charge times as smartphone power requirements extend from 3.5W to near 10W.
PowerbyProxi will demo its new EVK-2 system efficiency at CES at Showstoppers, on January 6, 2015, at The Wynn, Las Vegas. Also on display will be PowerbyProxi's latest system feature for advanced object detection that highlights the ability to differentiate between foreign and friendly objects placed on the transmitter. This feature will enable detection of metal objects in larger, multi-device charging systems.
PowerbyProxi is an active contributing member of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) Steering Committee and committed to developing an advanced and safe standard for wireless charging. Continued demonstrations will be available at the WPC booth in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention center, booth SL-2.
