POWER wins industry honors at the National Geothermal Summit
HAILEY, Idaho, Aug. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kizildere II Geothermal power plant in Turkey–developed by Zorlu Holding and designed by POWER Engineers–recently won industry honors for technological advancement at the annual Geothermal Energy Association's (GEA) National Geothermal Summit in Reno, Nevada. The GEA recognizes world-leading geothermal plant and technology developments.
POWER Engineers is the world's leading independent geothermal plant engineer with full design credits for more than 1,800 MW of new geothermal power generation capacity in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America.
The Kizildere II Plant uses an advanced triple-flash cycle to overcome the limitations that accompany typical flash or binary cycles. This new hybrid triple-flash/binary plant design, incorporating provisions for district heating and with features patented by POWER, uses a novel approach to deal with the high-CO2 geofluids found in this reservoir, and should be applicable to a number of other prospects around the world that present similar challenges.
"Our team of dedicated engineers was challenged to improve the process and come up with some very innovative ideas. And they did. The unique approach we took on Kizildere sets a new standard for geothermal power plant design," said Todd Krankkala, Senior Project Manager at POWER Engineers.
"Much of the credit for this accomplishment should go to Zorlu Energy for being willing to implement innovative technologies that maximize the value of their investment. This willingness of the owner to tune systems for performance, economics and participation makes for enjoyable challenges for our design team, which is grateful for the opportunity," said William Harvey, Ph.D./P.E., Senior Project Engineer for Geothermal at POWER Engineers.
