Power Home Remodeling Group Kicks Off "Power Month" in Support of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation
Company embarks on month-long initiative to raise funds to help fight pediatric cancer
CHESTER, Pa., June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Power Home Remodeling Group, the nation's second largest exterior home remodeler, kicked off its fourth annual company-wide "Power Month for Alex's" initiative today to support Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit dedicated to finding cures for all kids with cancer. Throughout the month of June, Power will host a series of events and fundraisers within each of the ten markets it offers home improvement services. To date, Power has raised more than $540,000 for the Foundation.
"After four years of partnership, we as a company continue to be inspired and motivated every day by ALSF and the incredible heroes and families it supports," said Corey Schiller, Co-CEO of Power. "A lot of companies have charitable initiatives, but what's unique about Power is our people and how they truly devote themselves to ALSF's mission throughout the entire month –going above and beyond what's asked of them and reaching into their own pockets and tapping into their personal networks to support ALSF. I commend each and every one of them and couldn't be more proud to have them as part of the Power team."
The kick-off event, held at the company's headquarters in Chester, Pa. and recreated at each of the nine regional offices, featured an address by an ALSF Hero Family and Liz Scott, Alex's mom and Co-Executive Director of ALSF, to inspire and energize employees around the ALSF mission and formally begin the fundraising initiative. This year, Power Month for Alex's will include a variety of employee and consumer components such as:
- The Alex Scott Phone Bank – On June 11, 14 Power employees and executives will volunteer to man the phones at the ninth annual "Alex Scott: Stand for Hope Phone Bank," a day-long telethon broadcast live from the CBS 3 and CW studio in Philadelphia. Power's Co-CEO, Corey Schiller will present a $50,000 donation to the Foundation in the 7 o'clock hour of the broadcast.
- Philadelphia Union Heroes Night – On June 27, Power will host as many as six ALSF hero families at the Power Suite at PPL Park for a fun-filled night of soccer to watch the Philadelphia Union take on the Montreal Impact. Prior to the game, Power employees will host an Alex's Lemonade Stand on the stadium concourse.
- Power Lemonade Stands – The week of June 8, employees will host Alex's Lemonade Stands and lemon bake sales at all Power locations across the country. Each regional territory will compete to raise the most money and a chance to win exciting prizes. Employees will also be encouraged to do the same at their homes and in their neighborhoods during every weekend in June, while also asking friends and family to participate.
- Company-Wide Payroll Deduction – Power employees will have the opportunity to make a donation to ALSF through a company-wide volunteer payroll deduction, a hugely successful initiative that helped raise more than $60,000 in 2014.
- Volunteering and Hospital Visits – Employees from each territory will volunteer their time at local children's hospitals, spending valuable time with children and families affected by cancer.
- Yellow Tuesdays – Every Tuesday in June, employees in the office and out in the field will incorporate the color yellow into their office attire to generate discussion and awareness of Power Month for Alex's and the ALSF mission. Employees in the field will also wear Alex's branded gear throughout the month.
Liz Scott added, "Power and its employees continue to amaze us year after year, as they continue to embrace our organization and mission with such enthusiasm and passion as if it were their own. We're truly honored and proud to have Power on our team as one of our Corporate Partners."
To promote Power Month for Alex's and share fundraising updates with employees and customers, Power will also employ a number of online tactics, including accenting the Power website in ALSF's signature yellow; sharing updates, photos and videos of employee efforts on the company Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages and offering ALSF merchandise for sale in the company's online store with proceeds going to the Foundation. About Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $100 million toward fulfilling Alex's dream of finding a cure, funding over 475 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
