Power Engineering and Renewable Energy World magazines name Projects of the Year Awards finalists
TULSA, Okla. and NASHUA, N.H., Oct. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The editors of Power Engineering and Renewable Energy World magazines have announced eight finalists for the magazines' annual Projects of the Year Awards.
The winners of the Projects of the Year Awards will be announced during a gala awards banquet on Monday, Dec. 7, at the KMA Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, to kick off Power Generation Week, which features POWER-GEN International, NUCLEAR POWER International, COAL-GEN, Renewable Energy World North America, and GenForum. Altogether, more than 300 speakers will be featured in nearly 70 conference sessions during Power Generation Week. The finalists were selected from four categories: Coal, Renewables, Gas and Nuclear.
Finalists for Best Coal Project are: Kansas City Power & Light's La Cygne Generating Station, with equipment provided by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas and Kiewit Corp.; and Korea South-East Power Co.'s Yeongheung Units 5 and 6, built by GS E&C, Hanhwa E&C and Lotte E&C.
Finalists for Best Renewable Project are: Topaz Solar Farm built by First Solar in San Luis Obispo County, CA; and Invenergy's Grand Ridge Energy Storage project in La Salle County, Illinois, which uses BYD America's Containerized Energy Storage System.
Finalists for Best Gas Project are: Dominion Virginia Power's Warren County Power Station, with turbines provided by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems and engineering and construction services provided by Zachry and Burns & McDonnell; and Panda Power Funds' Panda Temple I & II projects in Texas, featuring turbines from Siemens and engineering and construction services from Bechtel.
The Best Nuclear finalists are the Ningde 3 nuclear power unit in China owned by CGN, China Datang Corp. and Fujian Energy Group; and the bridge crane installation project, owned by American Electric Power and developed by Day & Zimmermann in Michigan.
An overall Project of the Year will also be chosen from the eight finalists. The winner of the Project of the Year Award will be announced during the gala event on Dec. 7 in Las Vegas.
