PORTLAND, Ore., June 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- This Saturday, June 24th, Climb Out of the Darkness 2017 will take place across the world. To date, more than $60,0000 has been raised for the 2017 Climb. The goal of the Climb fundraiser is to bring more awareness to perinatal mood disorders, and connect women and families to resources and support.
The Climb is sponsored by Postpartum Support International (PSI), the leading organization dedicated to helping women and families suffering from perinatal depression and anxiety disorders. We provide direct peer support to families, train professionals in perinatal mental health assessment and treatment, and provide a bridge to connect families with those specialists. PSI has professional and lay members in every US State and 49 other countries.
With over 150 teams and more than 700 individual climbers, participants include: clinicians, patients, and advocates working together in their communities to address the stigma of maternal mental illness and foster connections that will help better the lives of women and their families.
Thanks to everyone who is participating this year's Climb, more moms and dads will get the help they need to overcome postpartum depression, postpartum post-traumatic stress, postpartum anxiety, postpartum psychosis, postpartum bipolar disorder, and pregnancy depression and anxiety. Money raised by the Climb will support PSI goals to provide funds to local groups and organizations, provide low-cost training in perinatal mood disorders for providers in underserved areas, train law enforcement and legal experts, mentor peer supporters and group leaders, and train primary healthcare providers.
