Martial Arts Competition to Be Rolled Out at National Senior Games Events
PARSIPPANY, N.J., March 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Post Shredded Wheat along with the National Senior Games Association (NSGA), the governing organization for the largest multi-sport event in the world for adults over age 50, announced that judo will join the NSGA's roster of demonstration sports. In an effort to encourage people over 50 to pursue new paths toward health and wellness, Post Shredded Wheat challenged the National Senior Games to add a new, more extreme sport to their series of competitions.

From January 22, 2014 to February 24, 2014, fans across America visited www.PostShreddedWheatGames.com and more than 1,800 voted on what the NSGA's new sport should be in its biennial national competition. Voters chose from five sports – judo, weightlifting, power walking, fencing or soccer - to join the Senior Games and judo came out on top.

In addition to introducing a new sport, the cereal brand gave away grants to 20 adults over the age of 50 to compete as members of Team Post Shredded Wheat in their local Senior Games competition. More than 560 entries were submitted and winners were selected across the U.S. from San Diego, CA to Raleigh, NC. Through the grant, Post Shredded Wheat will pay the winners' entry fees and provide them with active gear and heart-healthy cereal to help them achieve their athletic pursuits.
