Porter Novelli Takes Two Top Prizes in the Annual "PR News PR People Awards"
Commitment to hiring and developing best talent continues to differentiate agency
NEW YORK, Dec. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Global public relations leader Porter Novelli today announced Karen Oliver and Dawn Brun took home top honors in the annual "PR News PR People Awards." Oliver, a senior vice president with Porter Novelli Public Services in Washington, D.C., was named "Public Affairs Professional of the Year," and Brun, an account manager in Porter Novelli's Atlanta office, was named to the "15 to Watch" list, which honors rising young professionals who are age 30 or younger. The awards were given at a ceremony held on November 30 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
Oliver, who won in a tie, has led the agency's Internal Revenue Service (IRS) business for the past four years. She has helped the IRS communicate critical information to taxpayers amid an increasingly complex and frenetic financial environment with a more diverse and segmented populace and constantly shifting political and technological landscapes.
"Since taking leadership of this account, Karen has not only expanded our work with the IRS but helped to bolster Porter Novelli Public Services' reputation as a go-to agency for smart, strategic public education campaigns," said Catherine "Kiki" McLean, senior partner, global head of public affairs and managing director of Porter Novelli Public Services. "Karen's creativity, strategic expertise and innovative thinking make her the true embodiment of the public affairs professional. I am delighted she has earned this recognition from the industry," McLean added.
Brun serves as an account manager on businesses including Bayer CropScience and T-Mobile. "Dawn has truly distinguished herself, not only through her stewardship of her accounts but through her dedication to talent management," said Brad MacAfee, senior partner and managing director of Porter Novelli's Atlanta office. "Dawn is really showing her leadership potential by mentoring junior staff and developing a strong internship program that has resulted in our hiring more than 60 percent of its participants in the last six years. She is definitely a PR star on the rise," MacAfee added.
The awards program is presented by industry publication PR News.
