Port Metro Vancouver's Top Ten of 2011: Collaboration in Action
VANCOUVER, Dec. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -
- We are creating jobs. Port Metro Vancouver activities are responsible for more than 129, 500 jobs across Canada, and more than 80,000 direct and in-direct jobs in the Lower Mainland alone.
- We are growing. With unprecedented infrastructure investments from the Port, industry and the Federal and Provincial Governments, the Vancouver Gateway's $9 billion infrastructure program is underway and will benefit port users, tenants, transportation, and communities.
- We are consulting. With our anticipated growth in the container business, the Port is consulting with communities, stakeholders and First Nations on important projects like the Deltaport Terminal Road and Rail Improvement Project (DTRRIP). This project will maximize efficiency within our current footprint, and increase capacity.
- We are sustainable. Port Metro Vancouver embraces the three pillars of sustainability: corporate, social, and environmental. This year, we launched our first ever Sustainability Report.
- We are investing in communities. This year alone, we have participated in 40 community events, funded 42 community sponsorships, and provided 16 bursaries through the Port's Leadership Program. Port Metro Vancouver invests up to one percent of net income in its Community Investment Program and focuses on education, community enrichment and environmental initiatives.
- We are faster. This year, the Vancouver Gateway has recorded container terminal dwell performance consistently below the three-day dwell target. This performance has resulted in an overall improvement in the consistency and reliability of the Gateway supply chain, benefiting customers through better predictability of cargo delivery. November 2011 average dwell time performance: 1.96 days.
- We are fuel-efficient. We are committed to reducing our corporate environmental footprint. We recently purchased five new fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles to further reduce the impact of our business travel. The hybrids were selected for their high fuel efficiency and low emissions.
- We are planning for the future. Port Metro Vancouver recently released the results of a long-term planning exercise called Port2050. With so many jobs relying on an efficient and sustainable Port, we need to be prepared.
- We are on the job 24-7. Thanks to our new 24-7 operations centre, we are centrally monitoring Port operations around the clock.
- We are delivering. Goods to you in a good way. Watch for Mark Madryga as he introduces the Port workers to the broader community in our upcoming television spots on Global. We don't just work here, we live here too!
