ATLANTA, Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The record three-day number of 57,531 fans that came to Monterey's Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for Porsche Rennsport Reunion® V experienced an event like no other. Over 50 legendary Porsche drivers and engineers came together with more than 75 Le Mans specific and significant models to celebrate "Porsche at Le Mans" and the most recent 17th overall victory this past June.
With 100 Porsche Concours racecars; 320 racecars competing in seven race groups on the track, 1,400 Porsche streetcars in 20 different corrals, the senses were easily overwhelmed. Modern Porsche factory werks drivers like Patrick Long, Jorg Bergmeister, Wolf Henzler and Mark Webber mingled with legendary drivers such as Co-Grand Marshals Jacky Ickx and Hurley Haywood, plus Derek Bell, Vic Elford and Hans Herrmann for three days of multiple autograph sessions, on-stage interviews and various meet-and-greets around the Porsche Park in the Paddock.
Of course, the most recent overall winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans were on hand, Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber along with their LMP1 919 Hybrid racecar, making hot laps on the famous Laguna Seca racetrack. The 911 RSR from the Factory Team Porsche North America also made quick work of the circuit.
The Ingram Collection, Brumos Racing, Revs Institute, Gunnar Racing, Canepa Design and many others joined thousands of Porsche Club members in bringing their prized Porsche cars to display and race. Celebrating their 60th year, the Porsche Club of America (PCA) had amongst their 1,400-car corral a special display vehicle for each year since 1955.
The IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama held its final two rounds of the year, with the Championship still undecided heading into the Rennsport Reunion weekend. Elliott Skeer, a 2014 Porsche Young Driver's Academy attendee clinched the Championship with a race win on Saturday.
