Popular ESPN Anchor Stuart Scott Honored With Inaugural Beachbody Challenge Inspiration Award
Popular SportsCenter Anchor Chosen For Unparalleled Courage and Determination In Facing and Overcoming the Seemingly Insurmountable
LOS ANGELES, June 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- There aren't many things more daunting than the challenge of overcoming obesity, but few would argue that facing a battle with cancer isn't one of them. It's for this reason that Beachbody, the innovative fitness company behind products such as P90X and INSANITY, selected popular ESPN reporter Stuart Scott as the recipient of its inaugural Beachbody Challenge Inspiration Award this past weekend at the company's annual Team Beachbody Coach Summit in Las Vegas. The award is given to the celebrity or influencer that has personally used Beachbody exercise programs and/or nutritional products and has most inspired others to get healthy and fit.
The 21-year ESPN veteran, best known for his work on the popular nightly sports news program SportsCenter and coverage of the NFL and NBA, successfully overcame battles with cancer on two separate occasions in 2007 and 2011. Recently, the cancer has re-emerged and Scott is once again facing the challenge with his trademark "refuse to lose" attitude and a healthy mix of relentless exercise, discipline and determination, positive thinking and the love and inspiration of his family and friends.
"I was genuinely surprised and honored at being the first recipient of the Beachbody Challenge Inspiration award. It wasn't a goal of mine, it's really just a lifestyle," said Scott. "We all want to be as healthy as we can be and if you get a chance to be healthy and share that with others, why not? When I discovered P90X I realized, I can get in a good workout right after chemo and feel like I'm doing all I can. I get inspired by others to do it. I hope I can inspire others to do it."
Scott has been outspoken about exercise as a key to his success, utilizing what he refers to as his "post-chemo workout" regimen where he combines MMA training with P90X. More importantly, Scott has utilized his own circumstances as a platform to motivate and inspire others facing similar challenges, consistently leveraging his notoriety and his own social networks to encourage others to keep pushing forward in their own battles.
In honoring Scott, Beachbody will donate $10,000 in Scott's name to the V Foundation, the national cancer charity created in honor of the late North Carolina State head basketball coach Jim Valvano. The aforementioned keys to success for Scott parallel those of so many individuals facing a variety of life-threatening and seemingly insurmountable challenges, including the threat of obesity at the heart of the annual Beachbody Challenge program.
"We were inspired by Stuart's story and his commitment to health and fitness, and we hope his story can inspire millions of others to tackle their own daunting challenges in the same manner," said Carl Daikeler, CEO, Beachbody, LLC. "The Beachbody Challenge is all about overcoming challenges and making seemingly impossible transformations possible. There's no one who represents this better than Stuart Scott and we couldn't be prouder to honor him with this inaugural Beachbody Challenge Inspiration Award."
