Poo~Pourri Presents: The Best Places To Flush In Flushing
As Tennis Fans Invade Flushing, New York, Poo~Pourri Serves Up the Perfect Pit Stops
ADDISON, Texas and FLUSHING, N.Y., Aug. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- While the world's top tennis players get down to business in Flushing, New York, Poo~Pourri Before-You-Go-Toilet Spray today revealed "The Best Places to Flush in Flushing" for visitors who need to take care of their own "business" while in the tournament's host neighborhood. Poo~Pourri (www.poopourri.com) is a secret blend of essential oils and other natural compounds that stops bathroom odors before they begin by creating a protective film on the water's surface, trapping odors below.
"Poo~Pourri is on a mission to help liberate people from the embarrassment or stress they might feel from life's stinky moments and to encourage people to always be their real, open and honest selves," said Suzy Batiz, creator and CEO, Poo~Pourri. "The Best Places to Flush in Flushing serves as a resource to the hundreds of thousands of people visiting for the tennis tournament. Flushing is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the world that has become a must-see destination for foodies and tourists."
"And if nature calls while walking around the neighborhood, Poo~Pourri has got you covered. Game, set and no need to light a match," concluded Batiz.
The Best Places to Flush in Flushing are:
Queens Museum
Located a short walk from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the Queens Museum, which stands in the shadow of the iconic World's Fair Unisphere, was home to the U.N. General Assembly from 1946-1950. Today it houses the Panorama of the City of New York, a scale model of the five boroughs built for the 1964 New York World's Fair. It also contains the only facilities in the Borough of Queens that are designated for men, women, and raccoons. Flushing Meadows Corona Park
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Inside this stately brick church on Sanford Avenue find one of the more serene places in downtown Flushing to take care of business. The restrooms are located down a wooden staircase and are done up in peaceful sky blue tiles. 144-27 Sanford Avenue, Flushing
Louis Armstrong House Museum
You might not be able to poop exactly where Pops did—an ornate chamber replete with a mirrored wall, marble sink, and gold swan faucets—but you can take a groovy tour of the house Satchmo lived in with his wife, Lucille, from 1943 until his death in 1971. Armstrong is best known for his New Orleans style jazz, but he was also the first and perhaps only celebrity spokesman for Swiss Kriss herbal laxative. And hey if you really do have to go there's a restroom on the museum's main floor. 34-56 107th St., Flushing
Flushing Town Hall
Romanesque Revival architecture make this one-time municipal government headquarters one of the more stately places in Queens to take a seat on the throne. Today the building houses a theater offering jazz, classical and world music, theater, dance and spoken word performances. There are also family and education programs, senior programs, exhibitions and free community events. 137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing
Pata Paplean
Named for a gorilla in the Bangkok zoo this funky Thai bar features eclectic décor, and drinks inspired by Thai food like the tom yum soup cocktail, which combines kaffir lime leaves, lime juice, sugar, salt and lychee purée with vodka, topped with a red chile. On weekend afternoons Pata Paplean offers some of the most authentic Thai street food in town — $4 bowls of noodle soup, including tom yum and kuay tiew nam tok moo, which features a pork blood broth. The most unique feature about this joint though is surely its bathroom. Flip the switch and you'll be treated to a light show worthy of Saturday Night Fever. Disco is alive and well in Queens' Little Bangkok. 76-21 Woodside Ave., Queens
Cafe de Cupping
Located on Northern Boulevard amid the largest Korean enclave in New York City, Flushing's only specialty coffee shop features Intelligentsia Black Cat. Enjoy one of the best espressos in town with some honey bread or waffle and ice cream. Feel the need to relieve yourself? The bathroom here comes with a PSA for coffee which reads, "Dear coffee, please stimulate my urination." 150-17 Northern Blvd., Flushing
St. George's Church
This Gothic Revival church has been serving the community of downtown Flushing for more than 300 years. The Episcopalian house of worship is open daily for meditation. And, yes, there is a restroom. It's located in the back on the left hand side. Don't just barge on in though. You'll have to ask a kindly woman who serves as gatekeeper. Apparently, municipal bus drivers have been known to keep the place less than tidy. While she's sizing you up she'll probably mention something about a key. Once you've met her approval, don't be surprised when she says, "In the back on the left, it's open." 135-32 38th Ave, Flushing
Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapati Devasthanam (Ganesa Temple)
This Hindu temple devoted to the elephant headed deity Ganesh is the only one of its kind in the New York City area and serves thousands of Indians in the tri-state area. Pay your respects to Ganesh and the other devas on the main floor of the ornate temple. Afterwards, head around the corner to the basement Temple Canteen, which serves delicious South Indian vegetarian specialties, including 2-foot-long paper dosa. 45-57 Bowne Street, Flushing
Queens Botanical Garden
Located at the Southern end of Main Street this oasis in the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing features a rose garden, herb garden, and beehives. The plants aren't the only green thing in the garden either. The administration building is a "green" building that's earned Platinum LEED certification. Composting toilets and the use of greywater provided from the building-constructed wetlands make it the greenest loo in Flushing. 43-50 Main Street, Flushing
