SEATTLE, Sept. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Poly Prep Country Day School announced today it will equip its varsity football program with the VICIS ZERO1 helmet for the 2018 football season. The ZERO1 is the top ranked helmet in the National Football League (NFL) and National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) helmet performance testing and the 2018 Virginia Tech STAR Helmet Ratings.
Poly Prep's decision to equip its entire team in the ZERO1 is part of a larger commitment from high schools around the country to outfit student athletes with the most technologically advanced equipment. In the first half of 2018, over 1,000 high school programs and 120 professional and college teams have made a commitment to have players in the ZERO1 for the 2018 season.
"We are excited to be able to bring increased safety to our athletes through the technology integrated into these new VICIS helmets," said Kevin Fountaine, Poly Prep's Head Football Coach.
Originally introduced to NFL and NCAA teams, the ZERO1 is now being worn by high school programs across the country for the 2018 season. The ZERO1 is the most technologically advanced helmet on the market, designed to reduce impact forces with a highly engineered structure that differs from traditional football helmets. The ZERO1 has a deformable outer shell and a unique columnar layer designed to slow impact forces like a car bumper.
The Dalton School, Hackley School and Riverdale Country Day School join Poly Prep among New York City schools who recently adopted the ZERO1 for the 2018 season.
"Our team has worked hard to bring ZERO1's breakthrough protective technology to high schools this season," said Dave Marver, VICIS CEO and co-founder. "Poly Prep has shown great leadership in making a commitment to this technology and we are proud to help them protect their athletes and elevate their performance."
