Poll Shows American Moviegoers Demand Historically Accurate Portrayal in Biblically-themed Films
First-of-its-kind funding platform, Investors 4 Charity, Addresses this Demand with Inaugural Project, NICAEA
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., June 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The so-called "Year of the Bible" has Christian moviegoers packing movie theaters across the country. Films like the SON OF GOD, MOMS NIGHT OUT and GOD'S NOT DEAD racked up a combined 218 million dollars in ticket sales in 2014. A new poll, however, reveals that America won't be duped by movies that are Christian in name only. Investors 4 Charity, the first-of-its-kind funding platform that allows individuals to help fund entertainment projects of their choice, is addressing this demand with the production of the feature film, NICAEA, which is set to hit screens in early 2016.
According to a survey of 1200 respondents from Oxford-based Christian News Service and conducted by American Insights, 79% of those polled say "historical and biblical accuracy is important." Additionally, two-thirds (66%) of all adults and 74% of Christians are likely to see a movie related to God.
Interestingly, 80% of the Christian community plan to see the upcoming EXODUS movie if it remains true to biblical accounts. However, that number falls off to 29% if the movie fails to be biblically accurate.
An element of the study gauged the interest of the viewing public for NICAEA, an independent film currently in production about Constantine the Great and based on the account of the Council of Nicaea at which Christians affirmed the full divinity of Jesus Christ. Among those polled 62% of the Christian community, and 57% of the general public, plan to see the film.
"These results clearly reflect the American people's demand for the production of biblically-accurate accounts of historical events and affirms our purpose in the production of our inaugural project, NICAEA," notes Charles Parlato, Founder and Chief Executive Office of Investors 4 Charity. "Taking liberties with the Bible for dramatic purposes like Dan Brown did in 'THE DA VINCI CODE', or the more recent film, 'Noah' is not something that we are willing to let stand unchallenged. NICAEA will present the accurate portrayal of the rise in Christianity and satisfy the obvious cry for the truth."
