Political Action Arm of National Taxpayer Group Endorses Ron Johnson for Senate
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wisconsin taxpayers who want a more forceful voice to represent them in Washington should choose Ron Johnson as their next Senator, according to the National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund (NTUCF), the political action arm of the 362,000-member National Taxpayers Union (NTU). Today NTUCF announced its endorsement of Johnson.
"Ron Johnson will bring a fresh and all-too-rare perspective to Washington, DC – that of a business owner who understands that the private sector can't grow and deliver jobs when taxes and government spending are out of control," said NTUCF President Duane Parde. "Time is running out to bring the nation's finances back to reality, which is why Ron Johnson's presence in Washington as Wisconsin's Senator is so urgent."
Parde noted that Johnson's answers to NTUCF's Survey of Congressional Candidates provided additional reasons for the endorsement. Johnson has pledged to cut wasteful spending, restructure federal entitlements, and enact fundamental tax reform.
Taxpayer advocates have worked with Johnson's opponent, incumbent Senator Russ Feingold, on several important fiscal issues, most notably in the area of wasteful defense spending. While he is an honest, thoughtful, and hard-working lawmaker, he also supported a larger and more powerful federal government in many areas. Feingold voted for President Obama's government-run health care system as well as the $787 billion "stimulus" package – two initiatives that have harmed the economy and the American people.
Because of this philosophy, Feingold's long-term voting record for taxpayers has often fallen short. According to the National Taxpayers Union's annual Rating of Congress (based on every roll call vote affecting taxes, spending, debt and regulation), between 1993 and 2009 Feingold's scores earned him six "F" grades, nine "D" grades, and two "C-" grades.
"The tough fiscal challenges in Washington demand a consistent taxpayer advocate who will work to keep tax rates low for everyone and aggressively roll back the recent expansion of government," Parde concluded. "We're confident that Ron Johnson can deliver the kind of reform that Wisconsin and the nation so desperately need."
Note: NTUCF is the political action arm of the National Taxpayers Union (NTU), the nation's oldest grassroots taxpayer organization. NTU, founded in 1969, created the NTU Campaign Fund in 1994. NTUCF's endorsement decisions require a unanimous vote on a nonpartisan basis by a four-member committee.
