Political Action Arm of National Taxpayer Group Endorses 36 Pro-Taxpayer Incumbents in Congress
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Many eyes are focused on candidates who are challenging business as usual in Washington, but Americans shouldn't overlook the incumbents in Congress who've been tried-and-true allies of taxpayers throughout 2013 and 2014. That's why the National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund (NTUCF) today announced it has endorsed 36 current Congressional officeholders for reelection.
"Putting the nation's finances back on the path to sanity will take a combination of experienced taxpayer advocates, recently-elected champions of fiscal responsibility, and many energetic newcomers," said NTUCF President Pete Sepp. "These 36 incumbents, including tax-fighting freshman and tenacious veterans of the fight for limited government, make up an elite pro-taxpayer cadre that will lead our country to a brighter fiscal future. Each and every one of them has the full support of NTUCF, and they deserve an enthusiastic reelection vote from their Districts' and States' taxpayers too."
The 36 incumbents were selected because of their standout performances in the 113th Congress, their previous NTUCF endorsements, their longstanding pro-taxpayer voting records, or a combination of these factors. One tool that assisted NTUCF's decisions was the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union's annual Rating of Congress, which is based on every roll call vote affecting federal taxes, spending, debt, and regulations. All 36 were top-tier finishers on the scorecard for 2013.
The incumbent House Members receiving NTUCF's endorsement, in alphabetical order of last name, are: Justin Amash (MI), Jim Bridenstine (OK), Steve Chabot (OH), Doug Collins (GA), Ron DeSantis (FL), Jeff Duncan (SC), John J. Duncan, Jr. (TN), Trent Franks (AZ), Scott Garrett (NJ), Trey Gowdy (SC), Tom Graves (GA), Jeb Hensarling (TX), George Holding (NC), Tim Huelskamp (KS), Raúl Labrador (ID), Cynthia Lummis (WY), Tom McClintock (CA), Jim Jordan (OH), Thomas Massie (KY), Mark Meadows (NC), Mick Mulvaney (SC), Robert Pittenger (NC), Mike Pompeo (KS), Tom Price (GA), Reid Ribble (WI), Todd Rokita (IN), Dana Rohrabacher (CA), Matt Salmon (AZ), Mark Sanford (SC), David Schweikert (AZ), Jim Sensenbrenner (WI), Marlin Stutzman (IN), and Rob Woodall (GA). The incumbent Senate Members receiving NTUCF's endorsement, in alphabetical order of last name, are: James Inhofe (OK), Jim Risch (ID), and Tim Scott (SC).
"Voters have hundreds of decisions for federal candidates on their election slates this fall, but these 36 Members of Congress are clear and easy choices for taxpayers," Sepp concluded. "They are true stand-out performers for limited, accountable government, and we urge citizens to cast their confident ballots for all of them when they go to the polls. They have earned the right to be called taxpayers' friends."
NTUCF is the political action arm of the National Taxpayers Union (NTU), the nation's oldest grassroots taxpayer organization. NTU, founded in 1969, created the NTU Campaign Fund in 1994. Endorsement decisions at NTUCF require a unanimous vote on a nonpartisan basis by a four-member committee.
