RESTON, Va., July 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ekahau Inc., the high-performance leader in Real-Time Location Systems (RFID-over-Wi-Fi™), today announced that it will demonstrate the Ekahau location-aware alerting system deployed at Idaho's Skyview High School, during the 2013 National School Safety Conference in Las Vegas. Idaho Police Officer and Skyview High School Resource Officer, Brad Ford will present at a conference session entitled "Successful Implementation of an RFID School Safety Solution at Idaho's Skyview High School", on Wednesday, July 24th at 3:15pm PDT. The session will demonstrate Skyview High School's Ekahau location-aware panic button solution and its significant impact on emergency response times.
With the Ekahau school safety solution, a Skyview teacher simply pulls down on their wearable Ekahau RFID badge or presses a badge button in the event of a health emergency and within seconds the badge automatically sends a request for assistance and room location to other nearby badge-holders, the school's Resource Officer and local dispatchers. Ekahau's 2-way geo-messaging capability eliminates the need for manual dialing and map look-ups; activating the patent-pending pull down safety switch places the school in lock-down. During emergencies, dispatchers can also use Ekahau Vision™ software to send mass text notifications to some or all badge-holders, directing teachers and classes away from danger without dependence on cellular networks. In addition, the Ekahau Forensics Replay™ software feature allows administrators to test emergency plan effectiveness by reviewing second-by-second badge-holder movements and event replays.
"Schools all over the U.S. are looking for innovative ways to ensure school safety. Ekahau's RTLS solution gives police, administrators and teachers real-time visibility into the location of individuals during an emergency," said Nampa Police and Skyview Resource Officer, Brad Ford. He adds, "This system has already proven effective by reducing our response time to a recent medical emergency at Skyview."
The Association of Idaho Cities (AIC) awarded Skyview High School for its adoption of the Eakhau school safety solution, at their 66th Annual Conference in Boise, Idaho. The AIC recognized Skyview's creative and cost-effective use of active RFID technology to keep students and teachers visible and safe. In addition, Skyview High School's Resource Officer, Brad Ford was awarded "Police Officer of the Year" by the Sons of the American Revolution for his role in discovering the Ekahau RTLS safety solution for his school. The mayor of Nampa, Idaho, Tom Dale also presented School Guidance Counselor Mandy Petty and Officer Ford with the "City of Nampa Public Servant Award" on July 3rd, 2013 for their research of and assistance with the successful implementation of the Ekahau solution.
"We congratulate Skyview's team on being recognized for their forward thinking and embracing real-time location technology as a solution to improve school safety. We're pleased they selected Ekahau RTLS as a part of their on-going school safety strategy," said Mark Norris, President and CEO of Ekahau.
