PokemonGo Palooza at Autism Speaks Walk Arizona: Catch Em' All and Support Autism Awareness

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- PokemonGo has taken the country by storm in recent months with people of all ages, and demographics taking part. For many, PokemonGo is an opportunity to get outside, explore communities and engage with new people. This innovative map based game has resonated with children and adults with autism spectrum disorder as well. Individuals with autism spectrum disorder often suffer from sensory sensitivity and social anxiety. But playing PokemonGo has given these individuals a new way to engage with the world around them.

Now MCLife, the residential apartment brand of MC Companies has been inspired by the game to help others. MC Companies is heavily involved with the Autism Speaks Walk Arizona in partnership with SARRC (Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center). Ken McElroy, principal of MC Companies, has been the walk chair in both 2015 and 2016.

To make this year's walk stand out from the rest, MC has decided to harness the popularity of PokemonGo to reach new people. Autism Speaks Walk Arizona in partnership with SARRC takes place on Sunday, October 23, 2016 and for the four hours of the event, MC will be luring 10 pokestops throughout Tempe Beach Park. Visitors can participate in the autism walk, and support autism awareness, while capturing Pokemon along the way from 8:00AM – Noon.

"There are thousands of people around the state playing PokemonGo, so we thought, why not bring PokemonGo into the walk and have all proceeds go back to Autism Speaks?" says VP of Marketing, Eric Brown. "Incorporating PokemonGo into the walk, adds another great feature of the event and will help bring more people out while raising autism awareness."

In order to participate in the PokemonGo Palooza at Autism Speaks Walk Arizona in partnership with SARRC, players will purchase their $10 tickets via EventBrite, and sign-up for the PokemonGo Walk Team through the Autism Speaks Walk Arizona site. All proceeds will go to the walk to fund Autism Speaks and the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center. Any and all are welcome to participate.
