Points of Light Institute Commits Huge Volunteer Mobilization Effort to Clinton Global Initiative
ATLANTA, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Points of Light Institute has announced it will mobilize 500,000 volunteer leaders as its contribution toward the goals of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). Points of Light's commitment, to be announced at the CGI annual meeting this week, will be in the form of the Get HandsOn Campaign, a 3-year effort to inspire and mobilize 500,000 volunteer leaders to create positive change in their communities, particularly in the areas of education, the environment, the economy, and emergency preparedness and recovery.
The goal of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) is to catalyze the development and implementation of innovative solutions to the world's urgent challenges. The Get HandsOn Campaign is a multi-year social mobilization campaign aimed at finding solutions and demonstrating the impact that volunteer service can have in addressing our country's most crucial issues. It will channel the energy of 500,000 volunteer leaders and the people they recruit into 2 million acts of service.
The innovative campaign uses the power and reach of mobile, digital and social media. Its community driven campaign website, www.gethandson.com, connects service minded individuals and highlights projects being completed around the country. The campaign is a signature program of Points of Light Institute and its volunteer-focused arm, HandsOn Network, which operates 250 volunteer action centers across the nation and in 16 countries.
Since 2005, Clinton Global Initiative annual meetings have brought together more than 125 current and former heads of state, 15 Nobel Peace Prize laureates, hundreds of leading CEOs, heads of foundations, major philanthropists, directors of the most effective nongovernmental organizations, and prominent members of the media. These CGI members have made more than 1,700 commitments valued at $57 billion, which have already improved the lives of 220 million people in more than 170 countries.
