BOSTON, Jan. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Plexus Information Systems, Inc. (Plexus IS), a market-leading provider of Anesthesia Information Management Systems (AIMS), announces today that it has signed an agreement with Southeast Alabama Medical Center (SAMC) in Dothan, Alabama, a 420-bed regional referral center, to replace their current AIMS with the Plexus IS anesthesia solution, Anesthesia Touch™. The system is scheduled to go live at SAMC in April 2014. Southeast Alabama Medical Center has achieved the reputation of providing the best diagnostic, clinical, surgical and patient care services available in the region.

Once implemented, SAMC plans to have a fully integrated anesthesia information system that interfaces with patient registration, operating room scheduling, lab, pharmacy, and medical records systems to achieve optimal workflow while promoting compliance with national patient safety standards. The Plexus IS medication management solution, Pharmacy Touch™, was also selected and will enable barcode syringe labeling and closed-loop digital tracking of controlled substances delivered by anesthesia providers.
"After a decade of contribution to AIMS development working with another vendor, the SAMC Department of Anesthesiology is excited about partnering with Plexus IS to achieve several key strategic advances not allowed with our initial AIMS," said Jeffrey S. Plagenhoef, M.D., President, Anesthesia Consultants Medical Group, Physician Leader AIMS and Quality and Peer Review Chair at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. "Detailed evaluation of the Plexus IS AIMS readily reveals the advantages delivered by a fellow anesthesiologist being the chief product designer. Dr. Woo has developed a product that should make it easier for users to draw upon the advantages of utilizing an EMR working toward the common goal of improving value in the anesthesia care we deliver."
"We are proud to partner with SAMC and to support their efforts to improve healthcare by continuing to expand and develop state-of-the-art technology that improves patient safety," says Albert Woo, M.D., President, Plexus Information Systems. "Our highly qualified implementation team is working very closely with SAMC to ensure the system is carefully configured to meet their facility-specific requirements and to achieve a seamless transition."
Unlike their previous anesthesia information system, Plexus IS' Anesthesia Touch is certified for both Stage 1 and 2 meaningful use measures required to qualify eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Anesthesia Touch is compliant with the ONC-ACB 2014 Edition criteria and is certified as a Complete EHR. SAMC anesthesia providers can now take full advantage of the clinical and financial benefits of the meaningful use incentive program.
