Players and Lawyers Agree: MLB Must Increase Ballpark Safety for Fans
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, Sept. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob Hilliard, who filed a lawsuit on behalf of a season ticket holder seeking to compel MLB to extend the netting to protect fans, comments on the most recent foul ball injury of a young girl.
Mr. Hilliard stated:
"Baseball, America's pastime, has broken America's heart. The little girl at Yankee Stadium is now the face of this needless danger. This will happen again, and again. There will be a sad and tragic death--it may be a child, it may be a grandparent, but it will be someone. MLB should be ashamed at this delay of not doing more. There is a need for a mandatory netting policy. From foul pole to foul pole."
Twins' Brian Dozier said: "Every stadium needs to have nets. That's it." Hilliard agrees.
Hilliard represents Gail Payne and Stephanie Smith, a fan who was hit by a ball and filed a lawsuit in California. The court dismissed the suit, but Hilliard appealed. The case will be argued before the US Court of Appeals for Ninth Circuit in December 2017.
