Platinum Luxury Auctions Presents Ultra-Luxury Caribbean Estate for December Sale
"Pirate-inspired" compound on island of St. Thomas previously asked $35 million
ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands, Nov. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Platinum Luxury Auctions, a firm specializing in the auction sale of multimillion-dollar properties, has announced that Villa Whydah, a grand, pirate-themed estate perched on the western tip of the island of St. Thomas, is scheduled for a live auction on December 13, 2014. Previously offered for $35 million, the meticulously crafted island paradise will now be sold to the highest bidder at or above the auction's reserve price of only $6 million. Platinum is conducting the sale in cooperation with listing agent Lee Steiner, principal of the U.S.V.I. Sotheby's International Realty brokerage firm.
With an exceptionally high level of quality and construction, Villa Whydah is considered one of the finest Caribbean properties currently on the market. Named after an infamous pirate ship that sank in 1717, the estate consists of seven structures situated on the property's 4.4 lush acres. The residence is located in the exclusive Preserve at Botany Bay development, a private and guard-gated community located just 20 minutes from Charlotte Amalie, the capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are a total of 8 bedrooms, 9 full and 2 half bathrooms, in addition to 3 outdoor showers. More than 15,000 total interior square feet of living area and an additional 4,000 square feet of outdoor living space provide plenty of room for large families and groups of friends.
"It's a spectacular property that exemplifies what can be achieved when a highly creative yet very detail oriented individual sets out to construct a dream property using an open checkbook," stated Brad Pruitt, Platinum's director of sales and the manager for the transaction. "While it's certainly a large structure, the seller invested so heavily in the design and build quality of the property that ongoing ownership is actually a relatively low maintenance, low cost proposition. I can't say that I've ever seen a 'total package' that compares to it, especially at this price."
The Villa is designed in a rich, British West Indies style, with nautical and pirate-themed decor providing the right touches of whimsy that are so well suited to relaxed island living. The property's owner, a semi-retired Wall Street investor, elected to offer the estate "turnkey," meaning all furnishings, decor, and personal property will be included with the sale of the residence, which even accounts for a number of automobiles and an impressive collection of fishing equipment, stored in the property's cleverly named "treasury" room.
Each structure was meticulously designed and constructed by a team of skilled craftsman, guided by the owner's unique vision and demand for superior quality. In fact, Villa Whydah earned an International Property Award in 2013, for its exceptional architecture and attention to detail. The Villa's structures include a main residence (with in-law suite), outdoor entertainment complex, stone gazebo, two guest cottages, a stone "tower," and caretaker's quarters (with a 4-car garage).
The "tower" is an excellent example of how Villa Whydah blends luxury with creativity to create a unique living experience. While looking like something taken from a medieval castle on the exterior, a closer look at the tower reveals much more. The rooftop serves as an excellent dining or entertaining area, with sublime views of the ocean and surrounding islands. The solid stone and concrete structure is fully wired with audio and lighting controls, and an inlaid compass rose is embedded in the floor.
Inside the Tower are two main living levels. An upstairs office (inspired by the captain's quarters of a pirate's vessel) is outfitted in rich woods from floor to ceiling, and is as handsome as most executive offices on Wall Street. Beneath the office is a sumptuous bedroom suite, complete with a full bath and a "prisoner's cell," which provides practical storage for the adults or serves as a play space for the children.
The Villa's community is exceptionally private. Situated at the intersection of Botany Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the Preserve at Botany Bay is a serene oasis set against a striking, natural landscape. The gated community has plans for a beach club with a pool and organized water sports, in addition to a spa which, upon its completion, will offer relaxing treatments and complimentary fitness classes. Intentionally planned to avoid dense development, the estates within the Preserve are situated on large lots surrounded by lush landscaping, providing plenty of privacy from both neighbors within the gates and from the rest of the island.
St. Thomas is a popular and vibrant island, boasting a variety of luxury shops, top-quality restaurants, and outdoor adventures. The island is also home to Mahogany Run, a 110-acre golf course that regularly attracts celebrity golf enthusiasts like Bill Clinton, Michael Jordan, John Travolta and Sylvester Stallone. Island hopping is popular among locals and tourists, with opportunities to easily travel between St. Thomas and other U.S. Virgin Islands such as St. Croix and St. John, in addition to the British Virgin Islands.
Beginning November 19th, property previews will be held by appointment between 12pm and 5pm daily, until the day of the auction. Interested parties may visit USVILuxuryAuction.com or call 1-800-591-1065 for details.
