Platinum Luxury Auctions Announces Pending Sale of Secluded Iowa Estate

DES MOINES, Iowa, July 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Platinum Luxury Auctions, one of the nation's most successful luxury real estate auction firms specializing in the sale of multimillion-dollar properties, is pleased to announce the pending sale of a luxurious woodland estate near Des Moines, Iowa. The property, owned by Ted Townsend, a philanthropist and the former CEO of Townsend Engineering, was offered at a live auction on June 27th. While the final sale price will not be released until the transaction closes, Platinum has confirmed that the price was in excess of the auction's $1 million reserve, and will equate to the third-highest residential sale price on record within the city of Urbandale, Iowa since July 2011. The sale was held in cooperation with local listing agent Heather Starr of The Starr Group, part of RE/MAX Real Estate Concepts in West Des Moines.

David Enriquez, Platinum's vice president, reported that during the firm's marketing period there were nearly 55,000 visits to the property's dedicated website, resulting in 65 formal inquiries, with 52 of those inquirers personally visiting the residence. Enriquez added that prior to the auction program, he did not believe the property received a single private showing, despite spending several years on the market. The buyer, a prominent physician in the Des Moines area, plans to use the property as a primary residence.

Situated on approximately 3.6 wooded acres overlooking a private pond, the 4-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom estate was built by Neumann Brothers builders and designed by Des Moines-based architect Ken Kendall. Reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright's residential designs, the 9,500-square-foot estate features sloping architectural lines set under stacks of triangular-shaped roofs, surrounded by dense, natural landscaping. Interiors are finished with beautiful woods.

The property is well known for its touches of whimsy, which include a mechanical "drawbridge" entry to the master bedroom suite, a massage/relaxation room (accessible only by crawling on all fours through a hidden entry), and even a dance floor.
