Platinum Luxury Auctions Announces Offering of Storied Equestrian Estate in Wellington, Florida
Two Swans Farm Slated for Auction During 2013 Winter Equestrian Festival
WELLINGTON, Fla., Jan. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On February 9, 2013 one of Wellington, Florida's most impressive equestrian estates will be sold at a live, luxury auction. Two Swans Farm, a luxury horse farm situated on nearly 10 acres, will be sold to the highest bidder at or above a reserve of $4 million. The property was previously listed for $9.6 million.
The seller retained Platinum Luxury Auctions, a firm specializing in the auction of distinguished properties, to conduct the sale. Listing agent Matt Johnson of Illustrated Properties Real Estate, Inc., an affiliate of Christie's International Real Estate, is cooperating with Platinum on the transaction.
Two Swans Farm is owned by Carol Cohen, a former dressage rider and a prominent figure in the equestrian community. Cohen developed the property with her late husband, business magnate Alan N. Cohen. Mr. Cohen was a former co-owner of the Boston Celtics and New Jersey Nets, and served as chairman and CEO of the Madison Square Garden Corporation.
The property is exquisitely designed and impeccably maintained, with an Old World European style that exudes charm and character. Features include a magnificent porte-cochere entry, grand courtyard, a covered and mirrored riding arena measuring 80 ft. by 220 ft., 12 main stables (plus 3 grooming stables) and Argentinian granite cobblestone walkways throughout. There are also 3 grooming stalls, a designer tack room, storage rooms and offices, a computerized hot walker and 8 separate paddocks.
Residential accommodations at the farm are quite plush, and are divided into two main areas: the owner's quarter, which offers 2 bedroom suites, 2 full and one-half bath, and the separate groom's apartment, which offers 2 additional beds, 2 full baths and volume ceilings.
"This is one of the most unique horse properties I've handled," stated listing agent Johnson, who is a top-producing sales agent in the Wellington market and also an accomplished equestrian. "I'm advising all of my buyers to participate on February 9th."
Cohen elected to offer the property at luxury auction in order to move on with other goals in her life, such as traveling. "I was really attracted to the date certainty of the auction sale versus the waiting game of the brokerage process," stated Cohen. "I know the real buyers will be there on February 9th."
According to Trayor Lesnock, president of Platinum Luxury Auctions, it's no surprise that Cohen has elected the auction sale. "Ms. Cohen is known as a trailblazer in the equestrian community, someone who pioneered the concept of creating horse facilities akin to 'luxury horse spas.' She has once again proven to be a leader in the Wellington market by choosing a luxury auction sale," stated Lesnock.
The village of Wellington in western Palm Beach County has come a long way from its humble beginnings as one of the world's largest strawberry patches. The area is now well known as a leading horse property marketplace and is the home of the annual Winter Equestrian Festival, an event that draws elite equestrian competitors – and their well-heeled sponsors and team owners – from around the globe. Wellington is also home to the world famous Palm Beach International Polo Club, which hosts nearly 30 polo matches yearly. As a result, the area is a sought after destination for wealthy horse aficionados, and an ideal location for them to purchase property. To be sure, the Wellington real estate market was white hot in 2012, registering 45 sales above $1 million, including individual sales at $7.2 million, $9.1 million, $11 million and $15.5 million.
