Michael Madrigale Offers His Favorite Bordeaux and Bordeaux Superieur Pairing Advice
NEW YORK, Dec. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Planet Bordeaux, representing Bordeaux and Bordeaux Superieur wines, are the ideal wines for the upcoming festivities, according to Michael Madrigale, Head Sommelier at Bar Boulud, Boulud Sud, and Epicerie Boulud.
"Bordeaux is your one-stop shop for the holidays!" says Madrigale. "For holiday parties, it's best to serve up some Cremant de Bordeaux – the bubbles and citrus notes go perfectly with a party atmosphere, and it also makes for a great choice for the 'Champagne' Tower photo-op. For a more intimate holiday dinner, I'd definitely suggest an aged Bordeaux Superieur Red. If you're planning a four-course New Year's Eve meal, I'd suggest starting with Cremant, having Bordeaux Blanc with the first course, then adding some Bordeaux Rose, and finishing with Bordeaux Superieur. Finally, if you're searching for the perfect gift for your boss this year – I'd go with an affordable Bordeaux Rouge (perhaps in the $25-40 range) - there's fantastic value there."
Planet Bordeaux is the biggest winegrowers group in France and is made up of 7 AOC's: Bordeaux Blanc, Bordeaux Superieur Blanc, Bordeaux Rose, Bordeaux Clairet, Bordeaux Rouge, Bordeaux Superieur, and the sparkling Cremant de Bordeaux. It represents 55% of the Bordeaux wine region (59,034 Hectares / 387 million bottles in 2014).
"There is a strong diversity in the terroir-driven wines from Bordeaux and Bordeaux Superieur. From reds, whites and roses, there's fantastic value throughout – and they're all excellent for the holiday season," added Madrigale.
