PixelOptics Announces Distribution Partnership with Nine Laboratories; Well Positioned for Successful Launch of emPower! in the Southeast
ROANOKE, Va., March 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PixelOptics, the world's first electronic focusing eyeglass company, today announced it has commitments from nine leading optical laboratories to support the first of multiple regional launches for emPower! beginning in May 2011.
U.S. Optical, Robertson Optical, Luzerne Optical, Pech Optical, Milroy Optical and Southern Optical have all signed agreements to manufacture and distribute emPower! electronic eyeglasses beginning with the Southeast United States. PixelOptics has also reached agreements with Perfect Optical, Empire Optical and Cherry Optical to support future regional emPower! rollouts throughout 2011.
"These commitments provide PixelOptics with the infrastructure, sales force and expertise needed for a successful rollout of emPower! in the Southeast as well as a solid foundation for future launches across the country," said Larry Rodriguez, Senior VP of Global Sales and Marketing for PixelOptics. "Each lab has a strong reputation for quality service, dependable products and sales representatives that know how to reach the prescription lens community."
All nine distributors will be required to go through comprehensive training by PixelOptics support teams in order to manage expected demand for emPower!. PixelOptics will be expanding its limited lab network by adding additional labs throughout 2011.
emPower! represents the most significant technological advance in prescription eyewear in the last 50 years. The world's first electronic corrective eyeglasses, emPower! features the most advanced consumer electronics innovations available today, including composite lenses with a thin transparent LCD-like liquid crystal layer, microchips, micro-machine accelerometers and miniature rechargeable batteries. emPower! eyeglasses look like regular, high-fashion glasses. The microchip, micro-accelerometers, and miniature batteries are hidden inside the arms of the eyeglass frames. The transparent liquid crystal layer in each lens is able to electronically change and activate the near focus lens only when needed with no moving parts and without making a sound. emPower! allows for seeing clearly at all distances; far, near and in between. Wearers can operate the glasses in three different modes: manual on, automatic and manual off.
