Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse Elects Two New Members to Board of Directors
Members of Governor Wolfe's Office Appointed as Ex-Officio Board Members to Region's Only Pure Life Sciences Investment Firm
PITTSBURGH, April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG), western Pennsylvania's only pure life sciences investment firm, announced today the appointment of Sheri Collins, Deputy Secretary, Office of Technology & Innovation at the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) and Dr. Karen Murphy, Acting Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) as Ex-Officio board members to the PLSG Board of Directors. Both new board members have key roles in Governor Wolf's administration and are committed to helping propel the western Pennsylvania region forward.

DCED Deputy Secretary Collins started her career in public service in 1986 with the Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement System. In 2004, she transferred to DCED to administer the Keystone Innovation Zone program, a newly launched technology-based economic development initiative designed to spur innovation and entrepreneurship in and around Pennsylvania colleges and universities. Over the years, Deputy Secretary Collins took ownership of several existing initiatives, including the venture capital investment program, the "Discovered in PA" grant program, "Developed in PA" grant program and the "Innovate in PA" tax credit funding program.
Acting DOH Secretary Murphy is currently the director of the State Innovation Models Initiative at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. Dr. Murphy has an extensive career in healthcare administration and consulting and was the former president and chief executive officer of the Moses Taylor Health Care System. Prior to becoming CEO of Moses Taylor Health Care System, Dr. Murphy served in various roles in health care administration. As founding chief executive officer of Physicians Health Alliance, Inc., Dr. Murphy also led an integrated medical group practice within Moses Taylor Health Care System. Dr. Murphy currently serves as a clinical faculty member in the Medicine Department at The Commonwealth Medical College. Dr. Murphy earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration from Temple University's Fox School of Business, a Master of Business Administration from Marywood University, a Bachelor of Science from the University of Scranton and a diploma as a registered nurse from the Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing.
