Pittsburgh Foundation to Launch Online News Venture
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania invites you to lunch at noon on Monday, March 7, to hear about the Pittsburgh Foundation's plans to launch an online news venture in June to focus on reporting of in-depth, regional issues. The nonprofit initiative will be funded with a $253,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation of Miami; and $325,000 from the Pittsburgh Foundation. The site will be produced at Pittsburgh Filmmakers, Oakland. Plans call for an editor to oversee content supplied by freelancers and by media organizations.
Grant Oliphant, Pittsburgh Foundation CEO, and Charlie Humphrey, Filmmakers CEO, will present information on the initiative. The club will also elect new officers at this meeting held at the Engineers Club in Downtown Pittsburgh (337 Fourth Ave.).
