Pittsburgh Entrepreneurs Forum and Cohen & Grigsby Showcase Pittsburgh's Global Robotics Leadership
PITTSBURGH, March 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Pittsburgh Presents Robotics, an event hosted by Pittsburgh Entrepreneurs Forum and Cohen & Grigsby, P.C., will highlight the impressive progress made by the region's talent as Pittsburgh continues its rise in the robotics world. The event will be held Thursday, March 23, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association in Oakland.
The 2nd annual event is curated by David Kalson, chair of Cohen & Grigsby's emerging business group, who will also serve as moderator for the panel discussion. Panelists will include Pete Rander of Argo AI, Jay Douglass of Carnegie Mellon University's Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute, Tom Galluzzo of IAM Robotics, Jackie Erickson of Pittsburgh Robotics Network and Carl Wellington of Uber Technologies.
"Pittsburgh's ability to attract extraordinary talent and redeploy its existing manufacturing infrastructure has created an organic local renaissance that creates jobs and economic opportunity in the region," said Mr. Kalson. "With the exponential growth of Uber, the introduction of Argo AI and Big Auto to Pittsburgh, CMU's Advanced Robotics Manufacturing initiative, and the proliferation of newer startups and early stage companies like IAM Robotics, our panel represents a cross-section of this expansive growth indicative of Pittsburgh's future as a global robotics leader."
Investors around the world are showing interest in Pittsburgh's groundswell of innovators who are developing groundbreaking technology including "human-friendly" robots that can be rapidly reprogrammed to perform any task in any space.
According to a Pittsburgh Robotics Network report, Pittsburgh's robotics industry has seen a 300% growth in employment with more than 1,500 jobs added since 2011.
The event will showcase innovations from three Pittsburgh companies: Edge Case Research, HuMoTech and Nabla Ascent.
More than 150 leaders, students and representatives from Pittsburgh's academic, research, business and investor communities are expected to attend the event, which will also feature interactive demonstrations and a question-and-answer session with the panelists.
