Forget every other plain old rock band you know and jump aboard one of the most fun and newest themed bands destined to conquer the world. Gasparilla's music, arranged to be a Rock Opera tale, tells the story of the infamous pirate Gasparilla sailing the Gulf of Mexico.
The Legend
The soon-to-be-famous Gasparilla hailed from Seville, Spain, where according to the Gulf of Mexico legends, he grew up to become a notorious pirate, making off with the jewels of Queen of Spain. Further investigation also places Gasparilla in the War of 1812 as a cohort with the legendary Jean Lafitte, smuggling his secret stash of gunpowder under the nose of the Brits who had New Orleans surrounded.
The Band
Led by the NYC singer/songwriter Donny Stew, the band will unfold a tale of intrigue and amazing guitar licks as drummer RVZ keeps everyone clapping along. When asked about the band's style, drummer RVZ said, "We go from reggae to rock to metal to acoustic ballads ... we do it all for you!" Fans who have just gotten into the band have already commented on the energy RVZ brings to the band, as well as the John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) playing style he adds. Gasparilla also features Peter Scance on bass, acoustic guitars, and vocals; he is best known for his work with the famous Meat Loaf. The trio playing together is truly a sight to behold as the boys do a crushing 3-part harmony for the ever-fun rocker "Bad In A Good Way," to be released next. This band is great fun and has a twist that will excite you to go see them again and again!
History
For those who don't know Donny Stew, he has been involved with writing city songs, some of which have appeared in major motion pictures including Drew Barrymore's roller derby movie "Whip It." To see the Donny Stew biography, visit http://donnystew.com/donnystewbio.cfm.
