Pioneer(R) Surgical Technology, Inc. Announces New CTO
With Over 20 Successful Years in Medical Device Research, Chip Bao, Ph.D. Assumes Added Role of CTO for Fast Growing Spine Company
MARQUETTE, Mich., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeff Millin, President and CEO of Pioneer Surgical Technology, with corporate headquarters located in Marquette, MI, has just announced the appointment of Qibin "Chip" Bao, Ph.D. to the position of Chief Technology Officer.
Dr. Bao has 23 years of medical device research and development experience. Since joining Pioneer Surgical in 2003, Dr. Bao served as VP of Spine Development and led the development of the P3® (Pioneer PEEK-on-PEEK) technology for spinal motion preservation. Under his leadership, Pioneer has successfully developed a strong pipeline on motion preservation based on the P3® technology; NuBac® artificial lumbar nucleus, NuNec® artificial cervical disc and BacJac® interspinous decompression device. Prior to joining Pioneer Surgical, Dr. Bao held the role of VP, Research and Development for Disc Dynamics® from 2000 – 2003 and held a similar role with Advanced Bio-Surfaces from 1998 – 2000.
Dr. Bao earned his B.S. in Polymer Chemistry from Zhejiang University in China and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Delaware. Dr. Bao is recognized worldwide in designing and developing disc arthroplasty products through his 17 U.S. patents and over 50 publications, book chapters and abstracts.
In his new role Dr. Bao will be responsible for Pioneer's continued effort in the area of motion preservation and will have responsibility for the evaluation of all potential products and projects introduced to Pioneer to determine their fit with the strategic objectives and resources of the company.
