Pioneer in Healthcare Training Acquires Med Tech Institute
College of Health Care Professions acquisition of Medical Technology Management Institute will support pathways into in-demand careers in allied health
HOUSTON and MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., Jan. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP), which offers accredited degree and certificate programs in fast-growing allied health fields, today announced its acquisition of Medical Technology Management Institute (MTMI), a nationally recognized provider of continuing education for medical imaging and emerging healthcare technologies.
"The integration of new continuing education programs combined with CHCP's existing, high quality curriculum will create new career opportunities for our employees as medical technologies continue to evolve," said Tonya Bell Brightmon, imaging manager of Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston, Texas. "These programs are tightly coupled with the demands of employers, and will give individuals real opportunities to translate educational experiences into economic opportunities."
Healthcare jobs continue be among the fastest-growing in the country, with more than 328,000 jobs created since 2017, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Growth in the field is expected to continue, including for occupations related to medical imaging, as an aging population will increase the number of medical conditions that require imaging for diagnosis. Recent reports indicate far more job openings than skilled applicants and a looming health care skills gap, leading healthcare providers and education institutions to seek new strategies to connect individuals with career-aligned education and lifetime training.
"As emerging technologies and shifting demographics transform the country's healthcare landscape, providing effective care for millions of Americans will depend on a lifelong approach to education and training," said Eric Bing, chief executive officer of CHCP. "MTMI's expertise in medical imaging and technology will bolster our mission of providing full service, flexible, accessible pathways for a continuum of training in high-demand fields that help learners from all backgrounds pursue successful healthcare careers."
MTMI provides over 6,000 continuing education and training programs per year, reaching more than 145,000 medical imaging and radiation professionals over its 30-year history. The institution has helped employees at thousands of healthcare providers access on-demand education and training in fast-growing fields including radiography, ultrasound, and MRI.
"MTMI shares our commitment to providing professional continuing education requirements for licensure through an innovative, student-centered, career-focused education delivery platform that enables learners to compete in multiple modalities throughout the healthcare marketplace," said Jon Patterson, president of digital services at CHCP, who will lead MTMI following the acquisition. "This is a natural and complementary extension of our efforts to meet student and employer needs."
The College of Health Care Professions is a leading workforce provider of training in the allied health fields, focused on certification and career placement. Through partnerships with local employers, including Austin's Ascension Seton, CHCP provides scholarships for disadvantaged students to start their educational journey and access externships that provide hands-on experience in healthcare fields.
"CHCP has pioneered a unique model of training that not only helps healthcare providers expand their pipeline of skilled talent, but also enables them to create economic opportunity for the communities they serve," said Angelic Bush, immediate past president of AHRA, the Association for Medical Imaging Management, and administrative director for imaging services at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. "Incorporating MTMI's industry-leading medical technology expertise with CHCP's programs enables new pathways for healthcare employees across the country to enhance their skills and continue to advance their careers."
