Dating back to 2007, the annual drifting tournament for Chinese journalists has received warm welcome from the media people across the nation. The event has served as promotion of the county's image. It has also greatly boosted the tourism and service sector in the county.
With the theme of "legendary natural beauty and low-carbon lifestyle", the fifth drifting tournament and the second festival of low-carbon tourism hosted a series of activities, including an international kite flying tournament, a tourism souvenir designing contest, a photography exhibition of local scenery and local custom shows.
Along with the Chinese journalists, organizers have invited 15 top Chinese writers and foreign friends from 10 countries including the United States, South Korea and Singapore.
An investment attraction fair is planned at the same time. The country government signed contracts with Shanxi Coal Transportation and Sales Group, Changzhi Company and Beijing Tourhood Planning and Design Institute.
With total contracted investment of 1.8 billion yuan ($282 million), they will integrate local recourses of tourism, and develop a series of tourism projects, including the Shenlong Bay area and Xigou village.
The both events are co-organized by the General Administration of Press and Publication, the provincial traveling administration and the government of the county.
The local government sees tourism as one of the key industries in the county. There are two national 4A scenic sites and a national patriotism education base in Pingshun. It is also listed as one of the nation's most influential counties in tourism and a low-carbon tourism pilot zone.
