Pilot Implements Active Fiber Monitoring Functionality Across Access Network
NEW YORK, Nov. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Pilot, a modern connectivity company delivering internet and network products to businesses, has announced the implementation of active fiber monitoring technology. Pilot is one of the first providers to add this functionality over an access network, directly benefiting customers in two key ways: automation of fiber monitoring and automation of outage response triangulation. These changes will result in fewer truck rolls, streamlined customer communication, and an overall reduction in service-impacting events.
"Our crews can respond to all fiber issues with agility and pinpoint accuracy, locating faults before they impact services and dramatically reducing repair times," said Rob Walker, Director of Research and Development, Pilot. "With active fiber monitoring, there's no need for 3rd party involvement when it comes to determining fault location along Pilot's access network."
This system is the latest contribution to Pilot's ongoing mission of delivering zero downtime across their network.
"No matter how diligent and protective we are of the network, there will always be events and factors outside our control; this technology is about acknowledging reality and building proactive solutions that put our customers first," said Sarah Bartley, Director of Brand and Experience, Pilot. "We think this is the future of accountable connectivity, and we hope over time other ISPs will adopt similar technology,"
Pilot's Active Fiber Monitoring was developed with ADVA, an innovative network equipment vendor, and their partner M2 Optics, a provider of custom optical infrastructure and test solutions.
"For a service provider as dedicated to always-on availability as Pilot, our ALM is the ultimate solution. Uniquely affordable and space-efficient, it delivers comprehensive fiber assurance 24/7. Now Pilot can be certain of detecting degradations and initiating countermeasures before services are affected and SLAs are violated," commented James Nachazel, VP, sales, North America, ADVA.
Apart from the major reduction in downtime, this tool also allows Pilot to automate triaging issues between in-building construction, power issues, or data center issues, further increasing speed to site and resolution. Pilot plans to offer this feature over the entire network by the end of 2018, deploying it for all lit fiber services across their portfolio of 450+ locations in Manhattan, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia.
