DENVER, May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On June 3, the first graduating class of high school seniors from Pikes Peak Online School (PPOS), a tuition-free, online public school, will turn their tassels in-person. Graduates from the class of 2016 are expected to attend colleges and universities such as Pima Medical Institution, Metropolitan State University of Denver and Northeastern Junior College.
Students from across Colorado attend PPOS because it offers an individualized learning environment that allows them to learn in the way that's right for them. Because they learn online, this graduation ceremony is an exciting opportunity for graduates to celebrate with other students, their families and teachers.
"Being a part of the first class of graduating seniors from PPOS feels very special," said PPOS Valedictorian Olivia Uhland. "Even though I did my coursework online, I am so glad that I get to mark this momentous occasion by celebrating in person with my teachers and fellow graduates."
The PPOS Commencement Address Speaker Dr. Oswaldo (Ozzie) A. Grenardo is a Colorado native who graduated from Stanford University with a degree in human biology and received his medical degree from the University of Colorado. He recently finished doing rural outreach work in southeast Colorado for 5 years and is the current Caring for Colorado Foundation Board Chairman.
PPOS combines engaging web-based lessons, live online learning sessions and support from state-certified teachers and counselors to create a unique educational experience for each student. The teachers and staff focus on both the academic and personal success of each student.
"We make sure that each and every student is prepared for life after high school," said Nicole Tiley, head of school at Pikes Peak Online School. "Graduation is a time to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of the students as well as teachers and parents."
