Pierce Bainbridge Adds Partners Joan E. Meyer In Washington, D.C. And Michael S. Winograd In New York
NEW YORK, March 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht LLP ("Pierce Bainbridge") has continued its rapid growth, adding as partners seasoned white-collar and investigations litigator, Joan Meyer to its Washington, D.C. office, and distinguished commercial, securities, and complex litigator, Mike Winograd to its New York office.
"Mike and Joan take our white-collar and complex litigation capabilities to a whole new level," said the firm's Managing Partner John Pierce. "We are attracting superstars in each of our chosen markets, which is the best proof that our new way of doing things in the digital age works."
Meyer joins Pierce Bainbridge from Baker McKenzie, where she served as Practice Chair of the Compliance & Investigations Group and the D.C. Office Litigation Chair. Her practice focuses on domestic and international white-collar defense for companies involving anti-corruption, financial frauds, government contracting, securities and commodities violations and trade compliance matters. Meyer also has extensive experience in global corporate compliance and routinely advises senior management and Boards of Directors on best practices for compliance with U.S. and international legal requirements and regulations and the consequences of law enforcement inquiries. Previously, she served as senior counsel to the Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she advised on corporate charging policies, corporate monitorships, and complex criminal litigation and corporate settlements. She also managed the operation of the President's Corporate Fraud Task Force, spent a number of years as a senior trial attorney at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and served as the First Assistant United States Attorney and Criminal Chief of the United States Attorney's Office in the Western District of Michigan. While working as a federal prosecutor, Joan was a recipient of two national awards for her successful prosecutions.
"It's a privilege to join Pierce Bainbridge," said Meyer. "It is a dynamic, top quality firm that has a new vision about how lawyers serve their clients. It is growing so fast because clients want the drive and initiative this firm brings to the table. I am proud to be a part of it."
Winograd spent the first two decades of his career as a litigator at some of the nation's leading firms, including Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, and, most recently, Ropes & Gray LLP. His practice includes a broad range of commercial, securities, bankruptcy, and other complex civil litigation, as well as regulatory proceedings and internal investigations. He has litigated in federal and state courts throughout the United States and before domestic and foreign arbitration panels and regulatory agencies. Winograd also routinely counsels entities and their boards on strategy and risks in connection with potential disputes. He has been an adjunct professor of law at the Fordham University School of Law since 2003, where he teaches Legal Writing and Research for LL.M. students. In 2018, Winograd was a second-ballot candidate for President of U.S. Soccer after a national campaign that garnered widespread praise.
"This was an opportunity that I just could not pass up," commented Winograd. "I have practiced law at the most prominent firms in the nation for 20 years. But this is different — elite litigators cherry-picked from top firms and government offices, and with a structure and efficiency designed for the future of the high-end legal market. It's an exciting time to join Pierce Bainbridge. As our current trajectory shows, the sky is the limit."
