Physicians Practice App Offers Guidance on Malpractice and Reimbursement
Digital issue for tablets helps physicians protect their practices against legal and financial risk
NORWALK, Conn., May 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Medica US today announced that Physicians Practice, the award-winning practice management resource for physicians and medical office staff, released the latest issue of its free tablet application, available from the App Store. This issue includes advice from peers and practice management experts to help physicians reduce risk and improve efficiency in their day-to-day operations.
According to results from UBM Medica's 2013 Great American Physician Survey, sponsored by Kareo, one-third of the respondents have been sued for malpractice, and one-firth have been threatened with a lawsuit. In an effort to help doctors mitigate their risk of being sued, this issue of the Physicians Practice tablet app provides tips on taking a proactive approach to malpractice risk in "Avoiding Common Malpractice Pitfalls." The article is accompanied by pointers to improve patient communication and advice from an insurance expert on the factors driving malpractice suits in 2014.
Also included are results from Physicians Practice's annual Fee Schedule Survey, the only national examination of how much physicians are paid for common services by public and private payers. Other topics featured in the issue include technology mistakes that put practices at risk of HIPAA violations, new opportunities to boost revenue, and a practice "tune-up" filled with tools to improve productivity and patient satisfaction.
"Practices have long faced legal risk from the threat of malpractice suits and HIPAA violations, but recent changes in reimbursement models have added financial risk to their list of worries," said Keith L. Martin, group editorial director at UBM Medica US. "This issue of the app provides our readers with practical pointers to help physicians and their staff identify areas of potential weakness and develop a plan to better protect themselves."
For nearly 25 years, Physicians Practice has provided practical advice on the business of medicine through a variety of mediums including print, digital, and live events. The Physicians Practice tablet app debuted three issues for the iPad in 2013, combining practical advice with interactive features such as podcasts, videos, checklists, and featured articles. In 2014, the second volume of the app will increase to six issues throughout the year. A version for Android tablets will be available soon in the Google Play store.
