Tramuto is speaking in two sessions at the conference. On Sunday, February 23rd, at 4 p.m. ET, he will lead a session titled "Informatics in Action Across the Globe." This session is part of the Nursing Informatics: Advancing Innovation, Impacting Outcomes pre-conference symposium being held in the Rosen Center at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
This session will explore how Health eVillages is embracing health IT and informatics principles to deliver better health to a global community. Health eVillages is a program of PI and the not-for-profit Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights that provides mobile health technology to medical professionals in underserved clinical environments around the world.
On Wednesday, February 26th, Tramuto will be joined by Milton Ochieng, M.D., the co-founder of the Lwala Community Alliance (LCA) in Kenya, for a session titled "Apps Save Lives: How mHealth Technology Improves Healthcare Quality Worldwide." This session begins at 11:30 a.m. in Room 311A of the Orange County Convention Center.
During the session, Tramuto and Ochieng will explore the overall impact Health eVillages and the LCA are having through the use of integrated mHealth technology on healthcare in resource-limited areas in rural Kenya. Today, LCA clinical staff members handle more than 32,000 patient visits each year, using mobile devices and medical reference apps provided by Health eVillages. Health eVillages has also provided funding to the LCA for a new 15-bed maternity clinic.
"I am excited to share the podium with Dr. Milton Ochieng at HIMSS this year," said Tramuto. "Caregivers around the globe using mobile devices and apps from Health eVillages have treated tens of thousands of patients in Kenya, Uganda, Haiti and rural Louisiana. It is our belief that access to quality healthcare is an essential human right, and that is what we our doing in Lwala with our technology and the new maternity clinic. If Health eVillages can help to advance – one life at a time – a connection to medical care, then it will make this world more just for everyone."
